New York Voter Registration Information

While we’re impatiently awaiting our New York State Assembly and Senate to bring our elections into the 21st century and pass the New York Votes Act proposed by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, you still may need to update your voter registration information the old-fashioned way!

To make any changes to your voter registration status, visit www.elections.ny.gov.

  2. You want to change your registration from Republican to Democrat.
  3. You’ve moved from another state or town and you need to update your address so you can vote at your local precinct.

How and Where to Register to Vote in New York State

  1. You can register in person at your county board of elections or at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center.
  2. You may also submit your voter application form at the Department of Motor Vehicles, either in person or on their website if you already have DMV-issued identification.
  3. You can enter your name directly into the mailing list database to have a New York State Voter Registration Form mailed to you or download the form and print from the website.
  4. You can call 1-800-FOR-VOTE hotline to request a voter application.

  2. Print the form after you’ve completely filled it out or print the form and fill it out by hand.
  3. Mail the form to the address for your county listed or take it to your local Board of Election office.
  4. Mail or deliver this form at least 25 days before the election you want to vote in. Your county will notify you that you are registered to vote.
